Materiarte opens Andrea Chisesi’s gallery in Milan
Two new collections mark his return to the city that inspired him
Inauguration 16 November 2024 – 5 p.m.
Via Marsala 1, corner of Via Solferino, Milan
On 16 November 2024 at 5 p.m., in the heart of Milan, the official inauguration of the fourth branch of Materiarte, Andrea Chisesi’s Art Gallery, will take place, adding yet another piece to the artist’s artistic and cultural journey.
Located in Via Marsala 1, on the corner with Via Solferino, the gallery curated by Marcella Damigella establishes itself as a new reference point for contemporary art in one of the most lively and international cities on the Italian art scene.
Materiarte is already a well-known name in the art world thanks to its existing venues in Pietrasanta and Ortigia. With this new opening, Andrea Chisesi’s network of galleries is further enriched, offering a cultural dialogue that crosses Italy from North to South. Milan is thus a further milestone in Chisesi’s artistic vision, a city that has profoundly marked his career, having been his home for over 40
years.
An exceptional inauguration, with two new collections
On the occasion of the inauguration, two collections reflecting the evolution of Andrea Chisesi’s artistic career will be presented: the latest creation ‘Il mito innamorato’, ‘Welcome to the circus’ and the permanent collection Fuochi d’artificio.
Myth in Love proposes a reflection on love through the lens of Greek myths. Using the technique of fusion, conceived by the artist in 2004, Chisesi reinterprets the great classical masters in a contemporary context, exploring love in all its nuances: from passion to desire, from human ambitions to divine revenge.
Welcome to the circus is a tribute to human diversity and resilience. Chisesi, inspired by circus figures, takes us on an emotional journey, revealing the grace, beauty and strength hidden behind the masks and performances. The circus, in his vision, becomes a refuge for wandering souls, a community built on passion and pride, where the art of living finds its highest expression, illuminating the deep connection between life and performance.
Fireworks, the permanent collection, captures moments of pure energy and vitality through explosions of colour and form. These works are a celebration of the ephemeral beauty of life, evoked by the symbolism of fireworks, representing the joy and wonder of existence.
Materiarte Milan: a new cultural hub for contemporary art
With the opening of its new Milan premises, Materiarte is preparing to become an important cultural meeting point for the city. Not just an art gallery but a dynamic space for discussion, exchange and reflection, aimed at artists, collectors and art lovers.
This development marks a significant expansion of Andrea Chisesi’s project, aiming to involve an international audience and strengthen the dialogue with the contemporary art world.
The opening, scheduled for 16 November, will be an opportunity to explore the new space and discover Chisesi’s new works, marking his return to Milan.
Biography of Andrea Chisesi
Andrea Chisesi is one of the most versatile and experimental Italian artists on the contemporary scene. Born in Rome in 1972, but artistically trained in Milan, Chisesi initially pursued a career as a photographer, working with high-profile fashion brands and magazines. However, it is in painting that he has found his true medium of expression. His distinctive technique, which he calls ‘fusion’, represents a perfect synergy between photography and painting. Chisesi superimposes these two visual languages, creating works that are striking in their material intensity and symbolic depth. His works, which move casually between figurative and abstract, address themes such as time, memory and history, exploring the relationship between past and present in an original way. He has exhibited in venues as prominent as the Milan Triennale and the Reggia di Caserta, as well as in numerous international galleries, where his innovative fusion of techniques and materials has earned him considerable critical recognition. Not limiting himself to painting, Chisesi is also active in the creation of site-specific installations, collaborating with architects to bring art into urban space and redefine the dialogue between environment and artwork. His aesthetic, rooted in a careful observation of the present, makes Chisesi a leading figure in the Italian contemporary art scene, capable of constant surprise and renewal.
