Art Gallery Materiarte
It is in the heart of Ortigia – a small island of Syracuse – that the Materiarte Gallery curated by Marcella Damigella opens on Saturday 29 October at 6 pm. The new art space in via Roma 44, in the homonymous street a stone’s throw from the Duomo.
For this debut, the curator has created an exhibition of works by Andrea Chisesi, Giovanni da Monreale and Emanuele Giannelli that pay homage to the city. For the inauguration event, the Materiarte Gallery offers around 25 works including painting and sculpture, as well as a selection of sketches, drawings and author’s proofs.
In the rooms on the ground floor, which overlooks the very central Via Roma, the visitor is welcomed into a timeless space, a courtyard typical of the island, where the work can be contemplated in a place that evokes the roots of the culture ancient and the white walls welcome pictorial and sculptural works that dialogue with centuries of history. Chisesi’s works tell the most beautiful kisses in the history of art, a preview of the “Kiss me” collection, she embarked on her journey with the intention of showing us love, she dedicates this collection to the kiss, to the “kiss me” gesture , its purpose is to renew the desire, to go back to kissing and hugging us, to get rid of distrust.
The intimate tactile relationship of two or more entities through the meeting of the senses and instinctive emotions have fascinated the most refined artistic minds for centuries.
